I’m back on the balcony overlooking the orange trees. Things feel a little fresher this morning after a tremendous lightening show last night. A contrast brought about by a meteorological event. We have so many contrasting things in our lives and our language is littered with sayings that highlight contrast and differences.
Whilst in Rome last week we spent time visiting a number of famous places, St. Peter’s Basilica being one and The Methodist Church in Rome being another. Such a contrast in buildings and no doubt worship styles (we did attend the Methodist Service last Sunday). Then we saw the Wednesday Mass in St. Peter’s Square led by Pope Leo and witnessed the many Catholic’s on their ‘pilgrimage’ in the year of Jubilee. All so very different from each other, all contrasting, yet all having the same aim and mission – to follow and deepen our relationship with God through a faith in Jesus.
Jesus teaches us to live in love with and for one another, and this includes all those who have totally contrasting and conflicting beliefs, something that at the moment looks to be far away. My prayer is that one day this will happen. In the words of Ringo Starr ‘Peace and Love’.
