Sat on the balcony this (late) morning in bright sunshine under a cloudless sky, I can’t help but notice the moon. Faint against the pale blue horizon as it ‘falls’ to set. I remember once taking my then 4 year old grandson for a walk who proudly pointed left and announced ‘look grandad, the moon’. Walking around the corner the moon was now on our right. My grandson again pointed and announced ‘look grandad, another moon’. I admit I struggled not to laugh out loud as I tried to explain that there is only one moon. Oh the joy of learning, the wonder and amazement. Something we should never stop doing. It doesn’t matter what walk of life we are in, you can’t stop learning. Our focus may shift, but learn we must.
In our walk as Christians the same is true. We must not stop learning. I believe the moment we do we become arrogant and possibly bigoted in our views and are in danger of defending our view as the only possible correct view. We should study the Bible and different writings, taking the commentaries of others, their wisdom and insight, and then look at all this through the eyes of Christ, through His love and compassion. Then, although I’m sure we still will not agree in everything, we will at least be able to learn from each other and live more how Christ would like us to. Who knows, we may even end up with a completely different view of something.
Photo isn’t mine.
