Sitting here on the balcony overlooking the orange grove and it is so peaceful. But wait: there’s the wind rustling in the tall grass, the bird song in the field, the cars on the road, doors of neighbours, an empty plastic bottle being blown down the street and my phone dinging away. Peaceful?

I wonder how often we get to be in total silence (when not asleep)? Even when purposely looking for silence I struggle to find it. When working I sometimes joined a couple of colleagues at the local Quaker Meeting House for 45 minutes of silence over lunchtime. How utterly refreshing spiritually, not just peaceful but a deep down calming.

However to sit and listen to the rustling and the birds can bring an inner calming as we listen also for God’s calming and accept His grace upon our lives.

Take time in your busy lives to find that place where you can be calm or even silent, if only for a few minutes, and see what God is saying to you.
