Sitting here on the balcony in glorious sunshine overlooking the orange grove could, after the events of this week in Spain, be described as ‘normal’. The power is back on, we have water (yes that went off on Tuesday), the cars are moving and people are around. It is ‘normal’.

This got me thinking however of what is normal? Every day is different with new events, new experiences, new words to hear, new opinions to listen to. No two days are alike, so normal must mean different, but that doesn’t make sense, or does it?

Monday with a massive power outage across Spain, Portugal and Southern France could hardly be described as normal but today will be different to yesterday and tomorrow in its own way, so not normal.

In Christianity we are encouraged to look for God everywhere and in everyone and everything. Not easy sometimes. I have found however, if you spend the time, you can indeed discover God and pleasure in the very normal. The creator of all can be seen in the extremely normal. Take time today looking at the normal around you and wonder at what you see.

But remember normal is not normal.
