Its quiet easy for me in this moment to be thankful. I’m sitting on a balcony in the bright sun overlooking an orange grove, bird song in the air. Sorry if that’s not what your outlook is at the moment.

Of course this morning there will be a lot of Liverpool football supporters giving thanks, some with headaches no doubt, for their team winning the Premiership yesterday, always a great achievement. So what do we give thanks for? It may be a new member of the family, recovery from an operation, friendship…..the list is endless. It could even be the simple fact of a new day. Of course there are times when giving thanks for anything may be so difficult.

In all circumstances I try to look around at the world we have, at creation, nature if you prefer, and then find it difficult not to be thankful for what we have. As someone who believes in God then I have somewhere to focus my thanks on and I do wonder how that thanks would work with no belief: whom or what do I thank?

All creation was made to give thanks and praise. Let us remember that each day and hopefully without the headaches.
