On the day where we have the London and Manchester marathon’s perseverance is in my mind. How do people persevere through the training regime over the months before and then persevere through the race itself. It is mind boggling to me and I am in awe and admiration of all taking part today.
Of course physical perseverance isn’t the only thing we need to stick at, some by choice and some where we are placed in a situation that we maybe can’t control. People are often told ( or is it just me?) you never stick at anything. Yet life itself can be a test of perseverance. Why? Well with all its ups and downs, the things we can control and the things we can’t, the things daily life throws at us, it’s joys, its sorrows, life is a hotch potch of events that test us all.
Faith, to me, gives me the reason to hang on in there, to persevere. Persevering in our faith is mentioned 10 times in the New Testament, whether that be in training or carrying out our faith. Seeing the funeral of Pope Francis yesterday and seeing part of the documentary on his life earlier in the week was a prime example of persevering in the human life, acting out his faith until he reached his final destination. He reached his goal.
Whatever you do, whatever life throws at you, persevere and you will reach your goal.
